Carol Ann Bowers Leonard

Carol Leonard passed away peacefully on November 25, 2017 at her home in Taylorsville, Georgia after a courageous battle with lung cancer.  Carol is survived by her husband, Joe and sister-in-law, Melissa Hall of Winston-Salem, NC.

Born October 1, 1947 to Ellsworth and Ruth Bowers in North Plainfield, New Jersey; Carol lived in North Plainfield until 1994 when she moved to Kennesaw, Georgia with her future husband Joe.  Carol graduated from North Plainfield High School and attended Union College and Rutgers University.  While her working life took her down several roads, Carol and Joe met while she was working in Audio/Video Sales with Video Corporation of America in Somerset, NJ.  This, with Joe’s career in video production and sales, provided a bond of working together on many projects, including nationally televised Monster Truck shows and Drum Corp International.  Joe and Carol’s production company, VidSouth Communications, provided cable commercials and other projects for individuals and businesses throughout northwest Georgia.  They were married for 23 years.

Carol’s love of animals transgressed life itself for her.  She loved and doted on her two Standardbred horses, Sharkey and Billy Bob, her hound dog Stonewall, and the two barn cats, Toby and Abby.  She was saddened recently with the passing of Hercules, her canine companion for 14 years.  Carol had lived in Taylorsville since 2010. She loved living in the country with her horses, the surrounding livestock, and wide open spaces.  Sincere thanks to Blake Carney, a local horse trainer, who kept Carol in the know in the equine world, and to Kyle Green, who helped rekindle Carol’s love of music.  They both were there for us with love and compassionate support in her final days.

Words cannot express the gratitude for the compassionate and kindhearted staff of Heyman Hospice Care at Floyd, who helped make her last days as comfortable as possible.  The incredible care in this period was nothing short of heaven sent.  The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff on 4-East at Floyd Medical Center, in Rome for their wonderful care while Carol was in the hospital.  A special thank you goes to Dr. Scott Bowerman, Dr. Melissa Dillmon, Dr. Darshak Pandya, and Dr. Amar Singh for their medical expertise during this difficult period.

A memorial service will be held at The Dogwood Terrace Restaurant, 4975 North Main Street in downtown Acworth on Thursday December 7, 2017 at one o’clock in the afternoon.   Fellowship and a late lunch buffet will follow the service.  Jeans are the appropriate attire.  Carol would want it that way.  Interment will be at Trinity United Church in Warren, NJ.   In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Heyman HospiceCare at Floyd, 420 East Second Street, Rome, GA 30161, 706-509-3200.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.GeorgiaFuneralCare.com
