Bettie Furru

Bettie Stinson Furru (Boo) was a beautiful bright shining light who’s heart was full of love. She left this world on February 20th, 2022 at the age of 67 in Marietta, Georgia due to complications from Covid pneumonia.

Bettie was born to Lizzie (Dawson) and Samuel Paul Stinson on June 13th, 1954. She was the youngest of five children. She is survived by her daughter Desiree Furru Hessel, son-in-law William Hessel Jr. (Billy), brothers Samuel Paul Stinson Jr., Bob Stinson, Marvin Stinson, and sister Marrian Stinson. She is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter’s father, Roy Furru Jr.

Bettie was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in New Haven, Connecticut. She spent most of her adult life living in Colorado where she and Roy raised their daughter. Bettie absolutely loved the big Colorado sky, the stunning Rocky Mountains, and the 300 days of sunshine. Although she had recently moved back to Georgia, she always considered Colorado to be her home.

Bettie enjoyed learning new things and helping others. After earning her Bachelors degree in Human Services, she went on to graduate with a Masters degree in Information Systems, followed by a Masters degree in Nursing. She spent the majority of her career working as a nurse, where she touched the lives of others with her empathetic and caring nature.

Bettie’s Christian faith was an integral part of her life. She spent a great deal of time studying the Bible and enjoyed sharing God’s word and unconditional love with her friends and family.

Bettie was extremely open minded about different people and their ideas. She never met a stranger, as her inviting demeanor attracted friends everywhere she went. Bettie’s spirit was full of love. Once someone crawled into her heart, she loved them forever.

Bettie was gifted with a strong and beautiful voice. Throughout the years, she displayed this talent in church choirs and at family events and special occasions. Once, she even sang the National Anthem at an Atlanta Braves baseball game.

Bettie enjoyed meaningful relationships with her dear friends and family. No matter the hour of day or how busy she might be, Bettie always made time for the ones she loved. She was a cherished mother, a beloved sister and a very dear friend. Her words of wisdom, faith, compassion, and sense of humor will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held in Bettie’s honor at a future date this year. All who knew and loved her will be welcome to attend.
