Stephen Lee Anderson

Stephen Lee Anderson, 65, of Canton, Georgia, peacefully passed away while in hospice on December 6, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles N. Jr. and Jean Anderson of Tunkhannock, PA.  Steve was born July 23, 1952 in Tunkhannock, Pa and lived the majority of his life in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  After excitedly moving to Georgia a couple of years ago he would often comment on how he enjoyed the warm weather.  He was a 1970 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and earned a degree in Computer Science from Wilkes Business College which he applied for many years in his work in IT at Proctor and Gamble.

Steve was a wonderful gentle man and a character in every sense of the word.   He loved to laugh and had a laugh that was contagious to those around him.  His laugh passively taught others how to find the joy of life.  He was a renaissance man with a keen appreciation for music of many genres including rock and roll, bluegrass, country, and R&B.  He was an accomplished musician in his own right and would often entertain crowds at a public venue or a few close friends and family in his home. It seemed he could play any musical instrument and loved to sing.   He had a natural aptitude for drawing and creating intricate items from wood; a talent that he believed was endowed to him by his father.  His banana bread was a creation of his that he often would boast about and willingly shared with others. He had a love for Nascar and his beloved San Francisco 49ers. He was an avid bird watcher. He knew everything there was to know about every bird, which was something he learned from his parents. He would often be seen at a car show with his 1952 Chevrolet truck that was built on the day he was born.  His appreciation of cars was a lifelong passion.  In 2014 Steve made one of his dreams come true by moving south to Georgia where he retired and spent his final years. He cherished his role as a father and grandfather.

Steve is survived by his beloved partner, Cindy Ball, Canton, GA; his treasured daughters, Summer Strait and her husband Rob and their children Caleigh, Kiah, and Kinsley of Springville, PA, Alexis Anderson-Newell and husband Josh and their children of Wyalusing, PA and Gabrielle Aukema and her children Tucker and Allison of Mehoopany, PA. and their mother, Lorie Smith Anderson.  He is survived by siblings, Sandra Anderson, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Jean and Eugene Woodruff, Tunkhannock, PA, and William and Mary Anderson, Owego, NY.  Also Surviving are the children of Cindy Ball, Maggie, Stephen Zaring, and Alex.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday December 28th from 5-8 at The Black Walnut American Legion.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Black Walnut American Legion in Steve’s name.
