Joyce Edwards Barker, age 91, died peacefully on Thursday October 15, 2020 in her new home in Acworth, GA. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother for 67 years. She was born on March 20, 1929 in Fairfield, Connecticut to Bessie O’Brien Edwards and Louis R. Edwards. She was a 1952 graduate of Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College) in Pennsylvania. She married George Robinson Barker(Bob) on April 25, 1953 and together they raised 4 children; Karen E. May, Bruce L. Barker, Diane S. Brown and George M. Barker II. Joyce grew up in New England, and later lived in Florida, Virginia and Georgia. She had a passion for young children and immersed herself in teaching pre-K for 20 years in Jacksonville, Florida - always working on projects for school at home.
She lived a very active life running a mile and a half before dawn, swimming a mile three days a week and insisting on mowing her lawn well into her 80’s. She was a great mom always knowing when to give a hug or a swat on the bottom and made the best chocolate chip cookies known to man. She had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the US and the world. Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers Gordon S. Edwards and Louis R. Edwards Jr. She is survived by her husband Bob Barker, 4 children, 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
