Larry Dale Morrison: September 27, 1964 – September 5, 2019

Larry is remembered in different ways by the varied groups of friends and family he was close to; but, all remember him as someone who was a go-getter. Whether he was seeking his private investigator license, the safety of his tank squad, the fugitive on the run, or comfort of his church family, Larry offered the grace of God to all whom he met. 

As a Deacon in the church of Jesus Christ, serving at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Larry was often the first to arrive on Sundays. He shared with the pastor that as he studied the Scriptures for the meaning of the office, he found the story in Acts which detailed the waiting on tables for the widows. He took it to heart and could be found every Sunday preparing the table, the snacks, and of course, coffee for our Fellowship time. He also spoke often of his membership in Clan Morrison and many remember him in his kilt bearing the family herald at the Kirkin of the Tartans service in 2018.

Larry was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Reserves who saw active duty oversees from Germany to Afghanistan. His service dates include seven years from 1987 – 1994 and two years following re-enlistment after 9/11 serving 2001-2003. He earned many commendations including: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (seven times awarded), Good Conduct Medal, National Service Medal, SE Asia Service Medal w/3 bronze stars, Overseas Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Drivers Safety badge, Expert pistol, Sharpshooter rifle badge, MOS Q 19K,11B,11M. However, the medal he was most proud of and spoke about was the Humanitarian Service Medal.

Larry also participated in several social and fraternal organizations. Most recently he was Awarded Knight Commander of the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem Autonomous Grand Priory of the United States of America (9/5/19).   He was entered as an Apprentice Brother of the Grayson Masonic Lodge #549.  He was a founding member of Gen Elijah Clarke Post #60 Scottish American Military Society and was serving as Sgt at Arms.  

As a member of the St. Andrew's Society of Atlanta, he served as the Assistant Chairman of the Hospitality Committee, hosting the Annual Christmas party every December.

Larry grew up in Riverdale, Georgia. He was a private detective and known throughout the metro Atlanta area for his work. He has colleagues throughout the area police and sheriff’s departments. While Larry was very private about his work, he often shared the fact that fugitives would turn themselves in to him, that he worked hard to track down people so they could be accountable, and that he saw every person as a child of God first; praying that he would not have to draw his weapon, and could effect a peaceful resolution in his work. The professional societies he participated in include:

• Member, Georgia Association of Professional Private Investigators
• Member, Professional Bail Agents of the United States (PBUS)
• Member, Georgia Association of Professional Bondsmen (GAPB)

The most telling aspect of Larry’s life are found in his relationships. His surviving family include his brother, David Morrison, his father, Douglas Morrison, 3 nephews—David-Lee Morrison, Aaron Bahadori, and Allen Bahadori. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Donna, and his sister, Janice. Larry’s friends are too many to be named but among those who were with him until the end are Jesús Prieto, Paul Stewart, Josh Hackman, Jim Gibson, and Lou Solis.

As noted by Bobby Gordon, “Larry was a very giving individual and was involved with several volunteer activities. He was a good personal friend and his presence will be sorely missed. RIP My Brother.”

The memorial service for Larry Morrison will be Wednesday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Rock Spring Presbyterian 1824 Piedmont Ave NE

For those who may be interested in attending the internment it will be held with military honors at the National Cemetery in Canton on Friday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m.
