Mike Sommers

Mike Sommers from Dallas, GA, at 44 years of age passed away from pancreatic cancer on December 27, 2021, at 3:00 AM. Mike was proudest of his loving relationship with his wife Shauna whom were childhood sweethearts that reconnected later in life and were married for 15 years. He loved Christmas and he loved his Pugs: Patty (his little girl), Marcie (get the concept - Charlie Brown), and Tuck the rescue from Tennessee. He had an outgoing personality and loved life. His smile and laughter were infectious and endearing. He will be terribly missed but will continue to be a part of many of our lives and we will see him again at Heaven’s gate!

He was a devoted Automotive Technician for many years, (which included shop foreman and technical trainer) he took pride in his career with Audi, Mercedes, and Volkswagen. He dedicated his life offering help and assistance to others and in many instances, he would stretch himself thin, but would always dress up and show up!

He had a passion for woodworking which included the installation of wood flooring, multiple items he built throughout his home; cooking which included grilling, barbecuing, smoking, and trying different techniques, the latest being the challenge of cooking on a “WOK”; He had a great understanding and knowledge of computers; He enjoyed making beer and even wine during a period in his life and he was always coming up with a new challenge to conquer.

He loved music! When he came home from work to unwind, he would crank up the music listening to some classic rock and some country artists, especially Hank Willams Jr. Some of Mike and Shauna’s best memories were hanging out on the patio and grilling a good meal, and spending time together.

After Mike’s stroke in 2018 - he worked hard in rehab to bring himself back to enjoying life at its fullest - it was a hard journey but he succeeded - and then the disappointment of finding out in January this year, that he had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, he continued to fight a good battle throughout this year until he succumbed to cancer.

Surviving family members include his wife, Shauna Whitten Sommers; his mother, Carol Schilling Sommers, and also his stepmom, Linetta Huston Sommers, whom all helped guide him through trials and tribulations and was always there to listen, up and until the very end; also survived by his sister, Jessica Sommers; his nephews Ashton Martin and Colton Grostefon; and preceding Mike’s death was his father, Ray Sommers.

Farewell and visitation is on Sunday, January 2nd from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Georgia Funeral Care & Cremation Services, at 4671 South Main Street, Suite 110, Acworth, GA 30101.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date!

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to pancan.org as more research is desperately needed in hopes of finding a cure for this deadly cancer.
