Willie James Peterson, age 91, of Atlanta, GA, died August14, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Willie James Peterson was the eldest son born to Allen and Florella Peterson on October 19, 1926. He was raised in Clayton, Alabama and accepted Jesus Christ and was saved at an early age. He did not have the privilege to get a high school education, but received much wisdom and knowledge beyond measure.
He joined Mount Vernon Baptist Church in 1947. He served as a "Door Keeper" until he was not able to serve in that capacity a few years ago. He has been a faithful member until the Father called for him to come home.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, Allen & Florella Peterson, brother, Arthur Peterson and two sisters, Louise Gresham and Lillie B. Williams and one son, Larry Peterson.
He is survived by: a devoted wife, Annie Peterson, six sons, Deacon Horace (Beverly) Peterson, Melvin (Brenda) Peterson, Jimmy Peterson, Ronnie Peterson, Michael (Ruby) Peterson, David Peterson, and one daughter, Betty (Deacon Carl) Mason. Also, survived by his siblings, two brothers, Herbert (Elena) Peterson, Hosea (Wylene) Peterson and sister, Dorothy Horn. He also leaves to mourn a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
Please join our family in celebrating his life at 11AM on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 815 Lynhurst Dr., SW, Atlanta, GA 30311. Viewing is from 9 to 10:45am if you are unable to attend the service. The family will receive friends for viewing & visitation prior to the service from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. Mr. Peterson will be buried at Georgia National Cemetery following the funeral.
