George Edwin Shumpert was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi on July 15, 1949. He entered into Heaven’s gates on December 27, 2018 after a strong fought battle against an infection.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Shumpert. He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Joyce Drawdy Shumpert. He leaves behind his three daughters and sons-in-law, Sacha and Jason Ballard of St. Augustine, FL,  Charity and Joey Welu of St. Augustine, FL,  and Karissa and Jonathan Mitchell of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Cody, Alyssa, Taylor, Justin, Carter, Connor, Noah, and Jackson.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army in 1971 due to a hearing loss, he attended Jackson College of Ministries in Jackson, MS. He worked a multitude of trades during his lifetime that included an EMT, a Preacher, a self-employed Painter and Maintenance Coordinator but most recently he was employed by Walmart in Houston, MS. Our dad was a man of strong faith and truly believed in teaching and sharing with others. He spent a lot of time reading and studying the Bible and other religious literature. He found peace in the simplicity of fishing and the comradery and fellowship with friends it provided.

He had a very kind heart and quick wit. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2018 at New Hope Church of God, 113 CR 42, Houston, MS 38851.

Charity, Sacha, and Karissa, I send my love and prayers to you all. Your daddy was a super nice man whom I always enjoyed talking with. He loved God and it is a great blessing to no where he is today. God bless ya'll. Elaine Manning Reply to this comment

Charity, Sacha, & Karissa - I'm so tremendously sorry to hear about your dad. He was such a kind man, and I have so many fond memories of him putting up with our loud, obnoxious selves when we were kids. Really, so many of my childhood memories were in your house. Your parents were always so gracious and beyond patient. When they welcomed me into their home, they really welcomed me, and it was just wonderful. My whole family is just devastated to learn about his passing, and we wish you peace and love during this difficult time. Reply to this comment

Karissa, Sacha, and Charity...so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. Please know you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers and rest in the fact that Mr. George feels no more pain and is reunited with loved ones. I’m quite sure your moma and my daddy were ring leaders in the welcoming celebration! ❤️ All our love, Shannon, Tom, and the kids Reply to this comment
