Kataryna Onyx McDonald

The morning of December 19, 2022 Kataryna (Onyx) McDonald passed from this world after a five-year fight with Type 1 Diabetes. The hole in our lives that remains will never be filled. Onyx was a beautiful bright light that showed love freely and effortlessly.

They had a true love of art, cosplay, conventions, movies and music, and they found such joy in working for haunted houses. They spent 3 years at Sinister Suites in Griffin, GA as well as this past Halloween season with House of Four Scythes in Cumming, GA. They were loved by many, and their reach extended beyond the borders of their home state; their best friend, Seth Howe in Canada, and “adopted son” Zeke Payne in South Dakota, among many others. They were the “mom” figure in their circle of friends, as they were always there for anyone in a time of need.

Our loss of this sweet child was not in vain. They have gone on to help upwards of 45 others in need. All they ever wanted to do was help people, and even in death, their legacy will live on through the lives of others.

This holiday season, Onyx leaves behind their mother, Vicki McDonald and partner Shaylyn Gilreath of Griffin, father Matt McDonald and fiancée Cynthia Shambarger of Cumming, brothers Drew Urspruch, Stephen Naaman and Luke McDonald; sisters Izabella Jenkins and Emmilaine Murphy, their sweet baby niece Abby, nephews Grayson and Jaxon, boyfriend Matthew Triplett, aunt Danielle Siegel, cousin Josiah Siegel and countless other friends and family. The family asks in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund or a local LGBTQ+ support organization, in memory of our beautiful Onyx.

Visitation will be held at 12pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Georgia Funeral Care located at 4671 S. Main St. Acworth, GA, followed by their celebration of life, which has been lovingly dubbed ONYXCON, to be held in the chapel at 2pm. In true Onyx fashion, please come as you would dress on any other day. Any and all cosplay costumes are highly encouraged and appreciated.

For family and friends that are unable to join us in person, Onyx’s service will be live streamed via Zoom on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2pm Eastern Standard Time, USA from the Chapel of Georgia Funeral Care. Note that the virtual waiting room will be open at 1:30 PM EST, US.
