Glema Jean McGuire Newman

Glema Jean McGuire Newman graduated to Heaven on August 22, 2017 , at the age of 89.She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell H. Newman and her son, DavidBrian Newman. She is survived by two sons, Russell Gene Newman and Marc Anthony Newman, daughters-in-law, Linda Newman and ten grandchildren, whom she adored,(Scott, Rusty, Cassidy, Hannah, Taila, Nicholas, Ryan, Milah, Shauna, and Michael), along with 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was retired from the C.H. Parsons Company.

She was born March 3, 1928, one of thirteen children, to Harry and Norma McGuire, and was raised in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. She met Russell Newman, the love of her life, and they were married on December 4, 1947.  They enjoyed a life filled with family and friends overflowing. She and Russ spent 59 happy years together before he went home to be with the Lord in 2006. She was so proud other three handsome boys, and was more than up to the task of keeping them inline when they were young. Later, it was through them that she received the gift of her grandchildren, who she enjoyed immensely.

She had a hunger for God’s Word and loved sharing it with others. She spent hours praying for those she loved and cared about, as evidenced by the many notes made in her Bibles. She was a longtime member of Tri-State Baptist Temple, where she and her husband served together for many years.

She had a fun-loving, whimsical nature, a contagious enthusiasm for life, and an appreciation for God’s amazing creation that brought such fun into the lives of those around her. It wasn’t unusual to see her sledding down the hill with her grandchildren or swinging like a wild woman on a grapevine, to the delight of the children with her. She loved music and found both great solace and great joy in singing and praising God. She passed this love of music down to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She saw God’s beauty all around her and could often be heard saying, “That’s so beautiful!” That is the way that she saw life…beautiful. She was a beautiful woman both inside and out,but her greatest beauty did not come from her outer self, but from the unfading beauty of her passionate spirit, which was of great worth in the sight of God and those privileged to know and love her.

It washer great desire that her funeral service be a “humdinger” of a celebration other life… a life well lived. It is certain that she herself is celebrating today, having joined her beloved husband, son and numerous family members in heaven and the Lord, Himself, has greeted her saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Funeral services will be held at 11:45 am on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Tri-State Baptist Temple, 1300 County Road 60, Southpoint, Ohio. Visitation immediately preceding the service at 11:00 am. Graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland, KY will be for family members only. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Children’s Program at Tri-State Baptist Temple. If someone wishes to send flowers, they should be sent directly to the church.
