Rex Morris, Jr.

Morris, Rex, Jr. Born to Rex Morris, Sr. and Bertha Short Morris, in Montgomery, AL. on April 21, 1922, Rex died on Christmas Day, 2017.

He grew up an only child and in various small cities. He attributed much of the formation of his faith and character to the Benedictine monks, who educated him at the St. Bernard Preparatory School in Cullman, AL, and was a lifetime supporter of the school. After attending Birmingham Southern and serving in the Navy in WWII, he completed his education at Auburn University. His initial career was as a CEO of a Cessna Aircraft Distributorship at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, located where the present Delta Airlines office is. After the sale of that company, he began a building/development business, and using his creative and problem-solving skills, he designed and redesigned both residential and commercial developments and properties until his 83rd.year. Among those projects were the rectory and educational building at St. John’s Episcopal Church in College Park, where he served many terms as junior warden. Having a gift for all things mechanical, Rex enjoyed boats, planes and cars, and challenging problems. His guidance for his children and grandchildren was often expressed in a calm pertinent question that led to them to their own correct decisions.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Crittenden Morris, daughter, Sally Morris Graham, grandson, John Thomas Graham, great grandson, Jonathan Rex Graham and wife Rachel, stepson, Kelly Maxwell Bugden, step-daughter Kim Bugden Delaney and husband Joe, and step-grandsons, Knox Crittenden Delaney and Preston Allen Delaney. Services for Rex will be held at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, Friday, December 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m Friends who wish to give a gift in his memory may donate to: St. Bernard Preparatory School, Inc. 1600 St. Bernard Drive, SE Cullman, AL 36055 Or to The Cathedral of St. Philip 2744 Peachtree Rd. NW Atlanta, GA. 30305 Or to a favorite charity.  Condolences can be left for the family at www.GeorgiaFuneralCare.com.
