Annie Lou Oakley (Ann) Ivey

Cartersville, Georgia

June 29, 1931 – April 6, 2024

Annie Lou (Ann) Ivey, 92, of Cartersville, Georgia, went to her heavenly home on Saturday morning, April 6, 2024.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, her life was devoted to serving Jesus and her family and helping others.

Always looking for ways to help other people, she touched many lives by meeting their needs. As a pastor’s wife, she was active as a Beginner’s Sunday School teacher, planning activities for youth and many other church activities.

She helped with many weddings, planning wedding receptions for most couples, which often included her baking and decorating their wedding cake. Doing for others brought her great joy.

Her heart was happy when she could cook and serve a meal for her family and friends. She and her husband opened their home to all and were foster parents to many children. She loved helping others and met them where they were in life.

She and her husband, Charles and their children moved to Cartersville in 1973 to work with special needs adults. She worked alongside her husband for many years working with the adults at Hickory Log, Bartow Work Activities Center, and Georgia Diversified Industries. She was affectionately called “Mama Ivey” by many of those she worked with over the years.

In her later years, God gifted her one of her greatest joys - writing and sending cards to encourage and bring joy to others. She loved to let others know that someone cared.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Charles Thomas Ivey; her parents Benjamin Franklin and Lily Theo Oakley; an infant brother and sister; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Cecil Johnson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jake and Wanda Ivey; sister-in-law Alice Ivey; brother-in-law Gray Blanton; and son-in-law Steven Walraven.

She is survived by her four children, Ben Ivey (Cynthia) Seneca, SC, Becky Dickerson (Danny), Cartersville, Charlene Stouffer (Andrew), Tampa, FL, and Chris Smith (Michael), Cartersville; grandchildren Mike Ivey (Lisa), David Ivey (Danielle), Joseph Walraven (Nancy), Oakley Walraven, Julianna Stouffer McGuinness (Ian), Leandrea Stouffer Tzitzicas (Stephen), Thomas Smith (Olivia), Stephen Smith, Matthew Smith (Teri), and Andrew Smith (Rachael); 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Allen Ivey, Mary Blanton, Grady Ivey, Wade Ivey (Judy), and Charlotte Long (John); and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 2pm at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 312 Burnt Hickory Road, Cartersville, Georgia. Burial will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 2pm at Bethany Church of Iveytown, 2615 Bethany Church Road, Lincolnton, Georgia.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bethany Church of Iveytown, c/o Bruce Rowland, 2040 Bethany Church Road, Lincolnton, GA 30817 or Gideons International at www.gideons.org.
