Harold E. Mordt Sr

Harold Mordt Sr.,94, passed on November 8th to be with his Lord. Harold was born on November 18,1928 in Orange Park ,Fla.He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Sally Mordt and brother Lou Mordt, and Grandson Robert Mordt.

Harold served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Korean Conflict as a storekeeper.He served on the Destroyers USS Atlas and the USS Marshall.He met his future wife Sally by being a penpal with each other after convincing a fellow shipmate to give him an address of one of the many girls he was writing to.

After his discharge in 1953 he married Sally in her hometown of Scottsboro, Ala.Moving to Jacksonville Fla. he joined his brother Lou in the ceramic tile install business.In 1964 he, Sally and son Harold Jr.[Sonny] moved to Marietta ,Ga. ,starting his own install company in which he successfully ran until his retirement in 2000.

Harold had many interests . He wanted  to be a Navy photographer, he was a great artist and restored  two 1957 Chevy Nomads.He loved Western art and was a charter member of the Booth Western Art Museum In Cartersville.

After Sally's death in 2008 of Parkinsons,he filled his time with painting and stained glass work.As he began to lose his eyesight and eventually gave up his car keys, he moved to The Fite Street care home where he was treated  with excellent care  for the remainder of his life.

He is survived by a son, Sonny Mordt, and two daughters Alicia and  her husband Rod ,Christina ,three grandchildren Myles, Alana, and Derek.He will be greatly missed by all who crossed paths with him.We have also forgiven him for being a Florida Gator fan! We love you, Pop!

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11, 6-8 PM at Georgia Funeral Care, 4671 S. Main St, Acworth, GA.  Mr. Mordt's funeral will be held Sunday, November 12, 2023, 2 PM, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 31 Douglas St., Cartersville, GA  30120. 

The Mordt family is being cared for by Georgia Funeral Care, Acworth, GA.
