North Cobb Schools: Raising community awareness, understanding and action against drug abuse

North Cobb Schools Team UP with Home Grown, NFL Oakland Raiders TE Darren Waller to kick off Red Ribbon Week Events and raise community awareness, understanding and action against drug abuse. Baker Elementary School, in partnership with North Cobb High School, will host a special event,  “Team Up Against Drugs with Darren Waller”  to kick off Red Ribbon Week events for students and families. With the support from community leaders and substance abuse experts, the event on October 10th, at 6:30 p.m. will feature former Cobb County Student/Athlete and current Oakland Raiders tight end Darren Waller as he shares his inspirational journey.

Come meet Darren Waller, as he educates and inspires us about overcoming addictions such as opioids, reducing access points early, recognizing the warning signs in others, and rising above addiction to become triumphant.  Waller will speak at his alma mater; North Cobb High School in the Performing Arts Center.
Through candid presentations and an outpouring of support from community leaders, such as: Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood, NorthStar Pastor and Leadership Coach Mike Linch, The Davis Direction Foundation, Pathways for Life, and ATLytics (Data Science for Good), “Team Up Cobb” utilizes the power of community to deliver a message of strength and hope to students and families that promote living a drug free life.

According to Cobb Educator and Team Up Coordinator Kimberly Hutcheson, “We want teens to have the opportunity to learn what science has taught us about drug abuse, alcohol, and addiction.  There are so many myths about drugs and alcohol cluttering our popular culture.  Team Up Cobb is for families and teens to get honest answers about drugs so they can make good, informed decisions for themselves and share accurate information with friends.”

We are giving away free ChickfilA meals to the first 350 attendants. To learn more and join the conversation use #TeamUpCobb #redribbonweek  , register for your free tickets here. Space is limited.

Darren Waller recently spoke about his struggles with drug addiction and his football comeback on TMZ Sports and Popculture Sports:

Darren is a former Baker Bear, Awtrey Viking, North Cobb Warrior and Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket. We are super excited to have him coming to help us by sharing about his inspirational journey. We hope to get the word out and fill the North Cobb Auditorium.
