Albert James Barker, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away on September 26, 2026, in Marietta, Georgia. He was born on August 13, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Albert lived a life marked by service, strength, humor, and deep devotion to those around him. He graduated from Sudan High School in 1965 and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring in 2008. His years of military service reflected the qualities that defined him throughout his life: discipline, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Those who knew Albert knew him as a caring person who gave of himself freely. In his work, he earned the nickname “Mad Dog Barker,” a reflection of his excellent leadership and the high standards he upheld. He held people accountable, knew what he wanted, and led with conviction. At the same time, he was generous with his knowledge, enjoying every opportunity to mentor those who did not yet know how to do the job. He became a friend and mentor to many, offering guidance, encouragement, and example.

Beyond his leadership, Albert will be remembered for the warmth and laughter he brought into the lives of others. He embraced Shirley’s children with loving care and made it his mission to provide for his family at all costs. He was the one who was always taking care of other people, quietly and faithfully putting their needs before his own. He was also the comedian among friends and family, able to make people laugh until their sides hurt. His presence brought both comfort and joy, and his love was felt in the many ways he showed up for those he cherished.

Albert is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Barker. He also leaves behind his children, James Stymest III and his wife Julie, Joseph Stymest, Stacie Walker, and Albert James Barker II and his wife Stephanie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lucian Walker Clough, Maryn Walker Clough, and Ireland Walker Clough, whose lives carry forward his memory. He is further survived by his niece, Lisa Stone and her husband Ray. He leaves behind a family who knew his steadfast care, his humor, and the security of his love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Mattie Barker and by his sister, Gloria Pittman.

Albert James Barker will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, leader, and friend. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply, in the people he guided, and in the laughter he shared so freely. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
