Cathy Powell

Cathy Powell Wall passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 29, 2022, following a short illness. Born May 11, 1949, daughter of the late Joel Eugene (Gene) Powell and Dorothy (Dot) Evans Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joel (Buddy) Powell, and son Kevin Reese Kelly all of Cartersville, GA.

Survivors include her devoted son Kyle Kelly, beloved granddaughter Reese Kelly, best friend, and sister Lynn Tatum (Charles), close friend and father of her children Harvey Kelly all of Cartersville, GA, nephew Brent Tatum (Ronda) of Adairsville, GA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special girls who loved her as a grandmother Catie and Callie Bell of Cartersville, GA.

After graduating from Cartersville High School in 1967, she began working at Lockheed Martin until her retirement in 2011 after 44 years. She began her career in the Marietta facility and later transferred to their corporate headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland where she was highly regarded and developed life-long friendships. She traveled extensively for work while in Maryland to Dubai, London, Singapore, India, and Paris. After retirement, her love for travel and desire to serve others sent her to Liberia with LIVE 2540 (Orphan Aid Liberia) as well as spending three months aboard the Mercy Ship in Africa. She most enjoyed her annual vacation time at the beach with family and friends. Her ability to retire and return to her beloved Cartersville was her greatest joy.

She loved and was loved in return by her church family at First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville, GA. Cathy served as a deacon and worked tirelessly with others at the Friendship Table, Meals on Wheels, and serving the community.

Cathy was beautiful in heart and spirit. She enjoyed decorating, preparing amazing meals, and hosting gatherings for her close friends and family. Acquiring beautiful artwork throughout her travels was a new passion. Cathy was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by many, especially by her close friends who with open hearts have remained devoted and tirelessly by her side.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 4th at 2:00 pm; visitation immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions in Cathy’s honor be made to:
