Derrick Lamont Whitaker

Our beloved Derrick Whitaker, 48, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on April 11, 2026.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Derrick carried his New York roots with him throughout his life. He later made his home in Marietta, where he built a life as a dedicated business owner and day trader.

Derrick was known for his drive, fun loving spirit and determination to create opportunities for himself and his family. He had a deep love for New York sports and was a loyal fan of the Giants, Knicks, and Yankees. Whether watching a game or talking sports, Derrick’s passion for his teams was something those around him will always remember.

Derrick is survived by his loving parents, Casandra and Edson Powell; his brother, Dwight; his nephews, Tremaine and Jacob; his cherished children, Mya and Dathan, his loving fiancée Terri, and a host of Uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tremaine.

Derrick will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his strength, his dedication to his family, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 25th at 12:00 PM from the chapel of Georgia Funeral Care 4671 S. Main Street Acworth, GA with Pastor Steve Pettit officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until !2:00PM,
