Dorie Savage Moore

Dorie Savage Moore was born March 12, 1942 in Port Chester, New York and was living in Roswell, Georgia when she passed away on January 12, 2024 after a brief illness.

Dorie embodied love, loyalty, compassion and caring while she graced our world with her presence for 81 remarkable years. Her life was a testament to unwavering compassion for both family and friends.  If Mr. Rogers and Dorie had lived in the same neighborhood, that would be the place to go to find out how kindness works.

Dorie's professional life was spent mostly as the CFO of Hobbs Inc, of New Haven, Connecticut.  She also worked for many years at Time Magazine in NYC and Atlanta.  She attended St. Lawrence University, but her education did not end there because Dorie never stopped learning.

Give Dorie a computer and she could plan a trip, look up your ancestors from the Mayflower, or find a rare and impossible-to-find item on eBay. She was always a whiz kid.

No matter where she lived, Dorie was actively involved in the life of her community, serving as greeter at her church, singing in the choir, and helping provide community support to those in need.  While living in Vero Beach, Dorie was an active member of PEO, an organization providing scholarships to deserving young women.

She was always a lover of animals, especially her little dogs, Molly and Mazie.  Save the Chimps, a chimpanzee sanctuary in Florida, was also an important part of her volunteer and animal focus.  She was happiest when she could help others, whether two- or four-legged.

When Dorie married William Moffett Moore, she started a new chapter.  She and Bill enjoyed travel, golf and entertaining.  The happy couple started married life in New Canaan, CT and retired to Vero Beach, a stone’s throw from the Atlantic, where they added beach combing to their many other pursuits until Bill’s untimely passing in 1995.

Colorful art, travel, all kinds of music, and reading were a big part of Dorie's life.  Her love for family, friends, and fun was unwavering.  Of course, those things went along with girl trips, card games and laughing around a charcuterie board.  Dorie’s most recent home was living at Chambrel, where she made lots of new friends.

With Dorie, family and friends experienced many magical moments, whether it be gifts of a hug, a quip or a colorful item from The Container Store.  Dorie’s niece said, "She was one of the greatest humans on the planet.  She lived her life vibrantly, unapologetically, compassionately, and all with style and grace."

Dorie is survived by her sister, Nancy Savage Petrie, five nieces: Susan Wilkey, Laura McAlpin, Joanna Morris, Nancy Webber-Graff, Karen McQuiston, and nephew, Billy Savage.  Dorie had many grandnieces and grandnephews.  She is also survived by her husband’s three children whom she called, her “bonuses”:  Katherine Moore; William M. Moore Jr. and Margaret Moore Booker.  Dorie was predeceased by her sister, Mary Savage Webber.

Dorie Moore's funeral will be held February 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Northbrook United Methodist Church.  The service will also be live streamed.  Contact Sally Rhoden at (404) 697-1428 with questions.

Those wishing to make a contribution in memory of Dorie can send a check made out to "The PEO Foundation" at P.E.O. Foundation, 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, 50312, or “Music to Light the World”, PO Box 674041, Marietta, Ga, 30006.  Please indicate, “In Honor of Dorie S. Moore”.  Gifts are tax deductible.
