Doris Schellenger Holmes was born on May 13, 1925, in Springfield Ohio to Roy and Mildred (Hawkins) Schellenger but raised by her great aunt and uncle, John and Nannie Brooks. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1943. Soon after, she married James Hughes Roberts in Bozeman MT, which was just before his deployment to France in WWII. Upon discharge from the military, the couple moved to Columbus, OH, where Jim attended The Ohio State University, and Doris worked.

After graduation, the couple moved back to Springfield OH for seven years where their children, James Arthur (Jamie), Thomas Hobson (Tom), and Constance Christine (Connie) were born. The next eleven years they spent living in Galion, OH. Jim worked as a Chief Engineer for the Galion Ironworks; a company that became an integral part of the building of the Eisenhower Interstate system. The couple engaged in Grace Episcopal Church with activities including Vestry, Choir, Lay Reading and most importantly, the Youth Group.

In 1968, the family returned to Springfield, OH where Jim took a position with Buffalo Springfield-Koehring Company. Doris joined Olan Mills as an executive secretary then moved to the head of Customer Service months later. Jim Roberts passed away suddenly in 1970.

In 1980, Doris married a childhood friend, Paul M. Holmes. She continued her work with Olan Mills until her retirement in 1985. As a couple they remained active at Christ Episcopal Church taking on duties as Treasurer, ECW, Lay Eucharist minister and Choir among other things. Dodi became quite involved in the Church Periodical Club “Mile of Pennies,” a ministry devoted to providing books to children. Paul passed in 2008.

Doris decided she needed to be closer to her family and moved to Acworth in January 2020. After a severe infection requiring hospitalization and hospice, she regained her health and moved to Dogwood Forest, now Arbor Terrace in 2022.

She was a devoted to her family and her Christian life. Her family has grown to include six grandchildren and four great grandchildren who visit regularly. She continued to quilt, knit, read and was always on the lookout for a game of Scrabble!
