Edward Francis Castro

Edward Francis Castro died on September 14th, 2023.   He was born on April 27, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York

Edward was a man of high intelligence and unwavering Christian faith.  He was a patriarch of old. A stoic. A provider that prided himself in always being available to his seven children, his fifteen grandchildren, and his five great grandchildren. He served in the army, loved God and his family. He was a hard worker and was the most rock solid foundation of a person his family and friends had ever known.

He was an engineer for the Apollo missions, specifically the lunar module for Grumman, during the births of his first three children while living in Coco Beach. Something his family is immensely proud of. He went on to be part of the teams that were amongst the first to develop digital and specialized weighing devices for the handicapped or injured and to develop the first digital voice recording device, for two separate companies.

He loved backscratches! Often piting his kids, two at a time, in competitions to see who could scratch the hardest and longest. He loved The Atlanta Braves, boxing (especially Evander Holyfield), Star Trek, The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, and The Eagles.

He loved food and was a “meat and potatoes” man.  His family enjoyed cooking holiday meals for him and he would hover in the kitchen in anticipation of a delicious meal.  He taught his children how to be responsible, hard working, and that one of the best things you could give your family is roots.  He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse Castro and Veronica Ruth Datz Castro; sister Judy Moran and beloved son-in-law, Sean Moore.

He is survived by his sister Kathy (Mike) Egger of Asheville, SC;  brother-in-law, Jerry Moran of Bellevue, Nebraska; seven children; sons James (Debra) Castro of Willow, AK; Michael (Stephanie) Castro of Marietta, GA; David Castro of Acworth, GA; and Alex (Courtney) Deremo of Pittsburg, MO; daughters Marie Moore of Marietta, GA; Debbie (Phil) Denson of Marietta, GA and Melody Castro of Fountain Inn, SC.  Grandchildren, Sarah (Daniel) Willoughby, Alex (Frances) Denson, Monty Castro, Isabel Moore, Talia Castro, Jeremy Guthrie, Jared Fields, Faith Castro, Ayla Deremo, Gwyneth Deremo, Miriam Deremo, Solomon Deremo, Eleanor Deremo, Leo Deremo and Ahava Castro.  Great grandchildren; Emma Willoughby, Sam Willoughby, Isaac Willoughby, Lyliah Denson and Charlotte Denson.   Nephews Mike (Tanya) Egger, Andy Egger and Christopher (Heather) Moran; Nieces Katie (Damien) Poortinga and Jeanine Paull.

The family would like everyone to wear blue as that was Edward’s favorite color.
