Ella Elizabeth Gilbert

Ella Elizabeth “Betty” Gilbert died peacefully in her home on November 25, 2023 at the age of 93.

Betty is survived by her son Robert (Jennifer) Gilbert. Grand Children Lindsey (Chris) Catone, Jenna (David) Caughman, Emilee (Derik) Gilbert, Lane (Essie) Gilbert, Conner (Melissa) Gilbert and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Clark Gilbert and son Thomas Gilbert.

Betty was born on April 6, 1930 in Marietta, GA to Robert Leslie and Remma Belle McCollum. She Graduated from Cartersville High School before attending Brenau College and the University of Georgia where she joined Tri Delta Sorority.

After graduating from UGA, Betty married Clark in 1953 at Sam Jones Methodist Church in Cartersville.

She was a prominent real estate broker in Cobb County and later in Cartersville, GA. During her time in real estate, she purchased a 500 acre farm in Acworth, GA where a portion of the farm is still home to 3 generations of the Gilbert family. Betty’s father advised her to buy a farm to raise her two boys and that decision has blessed her family immensely.

Betty and Clark traveled extensively abroad while Clark worked for Lockheed International. They lived in Jedda, Saudia Arabia and then in Singapore. After retiring to Myrtle beach, SC they later returned home to the family farm in Acworth.

Betty was passionate about her artwork and you can find several of her paintings displayed in the farm house and featured on wine bottles at Qualusi Vineyards which is owned by the Gilbert family. In her later years she enjoyed visits from her granchildren and great grandchildren. Her loyal dog Chester was a great comfort to her as well. Betty was a loving joyful person whose smile could light up a room! A famous quote of hers was “ Don’t stop moving or you will rust” and she lived by that.

The funeral is scheduled for December 14, at 1:30pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow at 5:30pm at Qualusi Vineyards, Acworth, GA.
