A Life Well Lived: A Century of Love, Laughter and Legacy

With much sorrow and immense love, we announce the passing of our mother, Gayle Darleen Garbers (Darleen), who peacefully left this earth on September 25, 2026, at the age of 96. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion.

Darleen was born on May 21, 1930, in Yakima, Washington. Her life spanned nearly a century, encompassing historical global events, a career, marriage, and a deep devotion to her loved ones. If you asked her about her greatest achievement, she would answer without hesitation: family and friends. To her extended family, Darleen was an endless source of unconditional love - she could find the good in all situations and would use laughter as a source of healing. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by the love and laughter of multiple generations. Even at her advanced age, and with dementia in her later years, her spirit remained youthful because it was fueled by her connections to the people she loved.

Beyond her family, she was a loyal and cherished friend. Known for her genuine warmth and listening ear, she formed bonds that spanned decades. She was always available for a visit, a good laugh, a glass of wine, or a quiet word of comfort. She possessed a rare ability to make everyone she met feel uniquely valued and loved.

Darleen - also known as Mom, Gammy, Donny, Sis, Auntie Dolly, and the Big D - taught us that a life well-lived is measured not by what you accumulate, but by the love you share....and she shared so much love. Our family holds an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the lessons she taught us and the privilege of being loved by her.

She is survived by her loving children, Keri Tasman and Grant Garbers, and their spouses Mark Tasman and Angelique Garbers; along with her five grandchildren, Jordan Tasman, Jake Tasman, Chase Garbers, Lexi Garbers, and Ethan Garbers; as well as a large community of extended family and lifelong friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Della and Harry Lewis, her sister Joy Carnovale, and her brother Harry Lewis.

Darleen's Celebration of Life is October 12, 2026 at 10:30 at Georgia Funeral Care in Acworth, Georgia with food and fellowship immediately after the ceremony at The Cowan Historic Mill in Acworth, Georgia.
