Gilbert Wank

August 13, 1941 — February 8, 2026

Cartersville, GA

Gilbert William Wank entered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, hearing the words “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Affectionately known as “Papa” by many, he was deeply loved by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Gilbert was born as Brent Murray and was adopted at around one year old by Martha and Gilbert Wank. He was raised in Wisconsin alongside his sister, Cynthia Proeber. He went on to serve his country as a Marine veteran and volunteered for the first ship at the Bay of Pigs. On January 25, 1964, Gil married the love of his life, Barbara, whom he lovingly called “Barbie.” Together, they began their life in Las Vegas, alongside close friends Delores Guest and Loren Lenz, where he worked as a craps dealer. It was during this time that their lives were forever changed. A friend, Tom Adams, shared the message of Jesus Christ with Barbara, who gave her life to the Lord in a casino lobby. Soon after, Gilbert also came to faith in Christ. Five years later, he answered the call to ministry, attending Bible college and becoming a pastor. Gil faithfully pastored churches across the country—from Arizona to Maine—impacting countless lives with his passion for God’s Word and his emphasis on His grace. He loved being a pastor, and he loved people deeply and genuinely. In his free time, Gil enjoyed riding his Harley and playing golf. Above all, he loved Jesus and his beloved wife, Barbara. In his final days, his greatest concern remained her well-being, a testament to his enduring love and devotion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Gilbert Wank.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Wank; his sister Cynthia Prober; his children: Vincent Murray; Vickie Trudell and her husband Sean; Julie Farley and her husband Mike; and Johanna Munroe and her husband Derek. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren—Alex, Abbie, Miach, Travis, Josh, Caleb, Jake, Marcus, Gracie, Ethan, Isaac, Owen, Amelia, Anaiah, and Nora—and 12 great-grandchildren.
Though he is deeply missed, his family rejoices in the assurance that he is now whole, at peace, and forever with the Lord he loved and served. His life reminds us of the truth of the gospel- that by grace, through faith we are saved, and his legacy of faith will continue to point generations to Jesus Christ.
