Herbert Carrell

Herbert A (Herb) Carrell formerly of Mableton, GA peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, after a brief illness. Herb was born in Gadsden, AL. and met the love of his life, Anne (Ballard), while attending Gadsden State University.  He proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed on the USS William V. Pratt.  After the war, he and Anne moved to Mableton, where they raised their daughters, Amanda and Beth.  Herb stayed in Mableton until shortly before Anne’s passing in 2008.

Herb spent the post war years working in telecommunications, retiring in 2001.  During his life, Herb was a dedicated member of the Lathem A&M Lodge of Austell, GA. He was a tireless volunteer with many organizations but was never happier than supporting his daughters through the South Cobb Band Boosters Club.

Sports was Herb’s passion.  He was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, University of Alabama and an inaugural ticket holder for the Atlanta Thrashers.  Herb was a fisherman and a golfer, enjoying time on Lake Allatoona as well as yearly golf getaways with his friends and co-workers.

Herb’s greatest accomplishment and pride was watching his children and grandchildren grow and be successful in their lives.

Herb never met a stranger, he was known for his jovial personality, “Dad” jokes and loud laugh.  He will be greatly missed.  Herb finally listened to his beloved wife Anne when she said "Come on Mo (short for motor-mouth) let's go". He's standing with her now for eternity.

Herb is survived by his daughters Amanda Carrell (Marietta, GA), Mary Elizabeth Carrell-Williams (Acworth, GA), his grandchildren Molly and Finn Williams, his sister Judy Carrell-Meigs (Bowden, GA), his brother Donald Carrell (Villa Rica, GA), Brother-In-Law Allan Ballard (Decatur, GA) and along with large extended family.

Memorial Services will be held Monday, March 21st, 2022, at 12:30pm at Ga. National Cemetery in Canton GA.  In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in Herb’s name.
