James (Bobby) Odell Evans

October 11, 1942 — November 20, 2025

Acworth, GA

James Odell “Bobby” Evans was born in Meridian MS, on October 11, 1942, and entered the gates of Heaven on November 20, 2025, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Georgia Ruth Megehee Evans and Benjamin Bryan Evans, whose love shaped his life from the very beginning.

He is survived by his faithful feline companion of seven years, Gomer, who remained by his side—and often on top of him—through his final hours. He leaves behind his two treasured daughters, Janet Evans Turnure (Doug) and Sheila Evans Sieving (Immanuel Christian “Quad” Sieving IV) who were the joys of his life. Bobby adored his nine grandchildren, each of whom brought light to his later years: Douglas James (DJ) Turnure, Martha Annette Turnure, Stephen (Bo) Turnure, Zachariah (Zac) Turnure, Alleya (Allie) Turnure, Grace Sieving, Immanuel Christian (Quinn) Sieving V, Eva Sieving, and Stella Rose Sieving.

Bobby was blessed with a loving sister, Elizabeth Evans Ford, and a steadfast friend in his older brother, Noel Evans (Nida). His affection extended to his nieces—Tracy Buffington, Amy Beason, and his nephews—Benji Evans, David Snell, Eric Snell and the late Mark Snell. His godchildren held a special place in his heart: Jennifer Whitfield, Amy Poppen, and Scott West, as did his grand-goddaughter, Brooklynn Baker.

Throughout his life, Bobby was surrounded by deep friendships, remarkable adventures, and love found in different seasons. He was married to Aline for 31 years and later to Tommie Jean for 14 years until her passing in 2011. He carried them both in his heart with gratitude.

As a teenager at church camp, Bobby surrendered his life to Jesus—a decision that shaped every step that followed. His faith remained steady throughout his life.

Bobby’s strength and determination carried him to the football field, where he played for the legendary “Bull” Cyclone Sullivan at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. He later served his country proudly in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge. His military service helped form the patriotic man he remained, always exercising his right to vote and speaking proudly of the country he loved.

A gifted golfer, Bobby’s daughters remain convinced he could have gone pro if not for their many high school activities that kept him close to home. Instead, he poured his love of the game into coaching the Emma Sansom Golf Team, shaping young players with patience and skill. When he wasn’t golfing, Bobby could be found in the woods. He was an “old school” hunter—never one for shortcuts or modern tricks. He hunted with respect for the land, using only what he needed and sharing generously with others.

Professionally, Bobby dedicated many years to Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and later to the State of Mississippi, where he worked in information technology. Even today, former coworkers describe him as a mentor—someone who never hesitated to lend a hand or share his knowledge.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 4:00 pm from the Georgia Funeral Care Chapel, 4671 S. Main Street Acworth, GA 30101. Visitation will be starting at 3:00pm. Burial for Mr. Evans will take place at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
