Janice Lee Mitchell, passed away on June 11, 2026, in Cartersville, Georgia. Born on April 7, 1945, in Murphy, North Carolina, Janice dedicated much of her life to both her family and her career, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Janice spent 20 years working for Shaw Industries, where her devotion and exceptional work ethic distinguished her as a valued employee. Those who hired her quickly recognized the rare gem they had found in her, and her commitment to excellence remained unwavering throughout her tenure.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janice was known for her easygoing nature and an innate love that extended to everyone she met. She embraced life with warmth and openness, never encountering a stranger and always ready to be a steadfast friend in times of need. Those fortunate enough to know her remember how she “always made Christmas special” and in reflection, “she made everything special.” Her genuine spirit was truly something extraordinary.
Travel was one of Janice’s great passions; the travel bug bit her early and never let go. Many of her most treasured memories were forged on journeys across the country, where her enthusiasm for experiencing new places and cultures was evident to all.
Above all, Janice’s proudest accomplishments revolved around her family, particularly her grandchildren. She loved them with a fierce and unwavering devotion; they truly meant the world to her and brought immense joy to her life.
Janice is survived by her beloved husband, Don Mitchell; her children, Shane Commons (Lynn), Greg Commons, Donnie Mitchell, Connie Mitchell (Jay), Diann Schwantes (Doug), David Mitchell, and Penny Gonzales; her sister, Shirley Clements (Conway); as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Georgia Funeral Care, located at 4671 South Main Street, Acworth, Georgia.
Janice Lee Mitchell’s legacy of kindness, love, and dedication will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who loved her. Her life was a testament to the power of generosity and friendship, and she will be deeply missed.
