Joyce Emerson Ray

Joyce Emerson Ray, age 100, of Sandy Springs, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025. Born February 13, 1925 originally from Bolivar, TN, she was the oldest of seven children and the last surviving sibling. Joyce spent most of her adult life in Tennessee and Atlanta, GA. She was married for 62 years to Howard Thomas Ray, Sr. She had four children and 3 grandchildren.

She was an active member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church for over 55 years and was part of a close-knit group of friends most of whom lived into their nineties. An avid reader, she enjoyed participating in Book Club as well as playing Bridge and spending time with family and friends. For many years, she enjoyed volunteering at The Clothes Tree, which was part of The Georgia Mental Health Institute.

In addition to her husband, Joyce is proceeded in death by her sons, Howard Thomas Ray, Jr. and James Emerson Ray. She is survived by her daughters Brenda Maxwell (Wayne), Mary Anne Addison (Joel), grandchildren Catherine Addison, Philip Addison (Isabella), and Mitchell Addison (Zara) and daughter-in-law Cyndie Ray Ritz.

A memorial service at Arlington in Sandy Springs will occur in December.
