Born on May 30, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, and peacefully passing at his home in Dallas, Georgia, on May 15, 2026, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LaVern Louis Johns Sr. and Edna Rae Martin Johns.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 53 years, Michele Moorman Johns of Beavercreek, Ohio. Together they built a family that was the center of his life. He is survived by his children: Jennifer Cassidy (John), Heather Dampier (Mike), and Jessica Dawkins (Jerry). He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Andrew Cassidy; Michael, Evan, and Evelyn Dampier; and Aubrey and Patrick Dawkins, all of whom brought him immense joy.
He also leaves behind his siblings: Irene Robinson (Jim), Marty Johns (Mary), and Charmaine Volkert (whose husband Richard preceded her in death), along with many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
He graduated from Macomber High School in Toledo, Ohio, attended the University of Toledo, and later earned a business degree from Sinclair College. Early in his career, he worked in restaurant management before moving into a successful career in window coverings. He served as General Manager for Levelor Blinds and Hunter Douglas Blinds and later spent 30 years as the owner of New Concepts Window Coverings, where he earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country during the Vietnam War, including a tour of duty at Chu Lai Air Base from 1963 to 1967. His dedication to fellow veterans continued throughout his life as a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He held the role of Post Commander for VFW Post #5408 from 2013 to 2015.
He had a passion for fishing, traveling, and above all, spending time with his family. His kindness, work ethic, and deep love for those around him will be remembered always
