Lee Arthur Lee was born on July 8, 1945, the second of nine
children to the late Sara and Willie
Lee, Sr. of Flora, Mississippi. He attended school in Flora before moving to
Chicago for a few years. In 1965, Lee
decided to make Atlanta, Georgia, his permanent home until his departure from this life.
Lee worked for several decades in the Atlanta
School System at Blalock Elementary, earning
the affectionate title of “Mayor Lee A. Lee” from the late Mayor Maynard
Jackson in the Bankhead Court area. He
played a significant role in the Police Athletic League (PAL), ensuring that elementary school
children were punctual and actively involved in the program. His dedication helped foster a sense
of community and discipline among the youth.
In 1979, Lee pursued his dream of
becoming a truck driver, a career that brought him great joy and fulfillment. He also had a
remarkable “green thumb,” cultivating a variety of vegetables and fruits.
Lee joined First Rephidim Missionary Baptist
Church under the leadership of Pastor Gus M. Harris in 2010, where he also became a
deacon. Deacon Lee was known for his warm, welcoming demeanor and infectious sense of
humor, making everyone feel at home. His sincere, joyful spirit resonated throughout
the church, endearing him to all who knew him. His two favorite hymns: “Guide me O though
Great Jehovah” & “There’s a Lilly in the valley”.
Lee transitioned from this life on June 27,
2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He has now gained his wings and found Victory in
Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his
daughter, Porcha Laton Lee. Lee leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Yvette Lee; four
sisters: Mary Henry (Lee), Grace Hatfield, Katherine Walker, and Carmetra Fears (Dan);
two brothers: Phillip Lee (Linda) and Thomas
Earl Lee; daughter: Zandrell Moore; four grandchildren: Tobias (Zella) Moore, Xavier (Jasmine) Moore, Delorse Moore, and
Serenatie Moore; five great-grandchildren: Gia, Zarah, Sage, Malachi, and Yohan; along
with a host of nieces and nephews, family and his beloved First Rephidim church family.
A family patriarch who welcomed everyone into
his life, Lee will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
