It is with our deepest sadness that we announce that Leonard P. Rittenhouse Sr. passed away at home on November 6, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Gowen, Pennsylvania to Amos and Wida Rittenhouse. He was the second youngest son of eight grandchildren from a coal mining family. After graduating high school he was drafted into the United States Army and stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. Upon his return from the service he left Pennsylvania to work in New Brunswick, New Jersey where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Anne O,Neill and later had three children, Leonard Jr., Kevin and Robin.
He became a journeyman pipefitter and continued his education through night school and other courses to further his career. He was employed at Bakelite, Union Carbide, Alcoa and eventually gained employment at Kaiser Aluminum in Edison, NJ where he worked as Plant Engineer. He later transferred to Kaiser Aluminum in Wanatah Indiana continuing as Plant Engineer and later retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Erie, PA as Plant Superintendent.
He was proud of his upbringing and his love for his family. He will always be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, kindness and caring ways towards his family and those he knew. He was a wonderful and devoted father and grandfather. He was a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Woodstock, GA. He will always be remembered by his four grandchildren and the summers they spent with him and their grandmother. He had many hobbies, wine making, woodworking fishing, hunting, hiking, and bicycle riding. He Loved his dogs, Yogi, Toby and Dieter.
Leonard is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne, his son, Leonard P. Jr. and all of his brothers and sisters, father and mother. He is survived by his son, Kevin and wife Dawn, his daughter, Robin Rittenhouse and four grandchildren, Alisha and husband Will, Nicole and Husband Erik, Lauren and husband Mike, Jennifer Hauge and husband Erik and nieces and nephews as well.
