Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) Louis Dargan Williams, Sr. was born to Laura Dargan and Willie Williams on April 19, 1936, in Chadbourn, North Carolina. He was raised by his grandparents, Minnie Quick and King Solomon Dargan, whose example instilled in him a foundation of godly character, discipline, and strength that guided him throughout his life.
He graduated from Westside High School and went on to attend Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. While at Lincoln, he was a member of the Alpha Psi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Inc. and the Color Guard while serving as a ROTC cadet. It was there that he met and later married Edrie Johnson of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Their 69 year union became the foundation of a strong and enduring family legacy.
Louis enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and served in the 101st Airborne Division before embarking into the field of Medical Maintenance where he developed specialized technical expertise. A highly skilled Biomedical Service Engineer, he supported critical military operations with precision and excellence both in the United States and abroad. His distinguished service earned numerous commendations, including the Parachutist Badge, Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar (M-1); Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award); Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver service star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device (1960); and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation.
Mr. Williams served honorably for over two decades, retiring from military service in 1979.
Following his military career, Louis continued his service consulting with the Veterans Administration, where he worked faithfully. He retired from federal service in 1984 reflecting the lasting impact of his commitment and sacrifice to his country.
Louis was a builder of communities and a builder of people of every generation. In Chadbourn, North Carolina, he established the Westside Alumni Association providing educational advancement opportunities through its annual scholarship program for aspiring youth. In honor of his grandmother, this initiative continues through the Minnie Dargan Scholarship.
Louis treasured his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family deeply and led with a wealth of knowledge, experience, wisdom, and generosity. His mission was to instill values that shaped character and upheld a standard of excellence.
Throughout his life he made friends wherever he went and was intentional about maintaining those relationships. Especially with his closest friend, Colonel (Ret.) Clifford Hill.
He took pride in having an emerald green Kentucky Blue grass lawn all year long. He grew a variety of fruits and vegetables and generously shared his prized roses and flowers with others.
He was also passionate about health and wellness, often offering insight from his personal journey. His love for music spanned generations and genres: from George Jones (Country) to Dave Brubeck, (Cool Jazz) and from Mahalia Jackson (Gospel) to Motown (Soul) to Prince (Pop).
Louis leaves to cherish his memory his faithful and beloved wife, Edrie; his four children: Louis D. Williams, Jr. (Elaine); Carla Edrie Williams Wilson (Darryl); Dr. Latona Faye Disher (Kevin); and Lanette Dawn Crute.
Eight grandchildren: Shauniqua Dawn (Shana) Eley; Kristen Lipscomb (Joshua); Bradford Wilson; Bryan Wellington Crute; Olivia Williams; Victoria Williams; Austin Crute; and Louis Immanuel Williams.
