February 2, 1954 – November 7, 2023

Max Alling, 69 of Dallas, GA passed away at Wellstar Community Hospice of Austell,Ga on November 7, 2023 following a brief illness.

Max was born on February 2, 1954 to Howard and Muriel (Keipe) Alling at the Berlin Hospital. He was raised in Green Lake and graduated from Green Lake High School in 1972. He was a member of the Green Lake High School Alumni Association and a devoted attendee of the All-School Reunions.

After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and took the oath of enlistment on the field of County Stadium prior to a Milwaukee Brewers game. He served as an Electricians Mate in the Submarine Service. He attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer and the honorary titles of Shellback and Blue Nose for crossing the Equator and Artic Circle respectively.

He was a Plank Owner of the USS Key West, serving on the inaugural crew. He made two trips to the North Pole and was able to venture on to the ice as official ship’s photographer. During his time in the Navy, he was taught a card game that would come to be a fixture at family gatherings known affectionately as “John’s Game”. He retired with 20 years of service.

Max then moved to Dallas, Georgia where he was employed by Thermal Fluid Systems as a service technician. His work took him to many places throughout the US, Europe and Asia. In fact, a trip to Africa forced him to contemplate fleeing into the jungle when civil unrest broke out at the job site.

He was predeceased by his father, Howard and his niece, Kate.

Per his wishes his remains will be spread at sea. A celebration of life for Max will be held at a later date.
