Paul James Parker Jr

Mar 15, 1933 — Jun 25, 2026

Paul Parker grew up in Knoxville, TN and left home at 17 to go to Alaska on what would be one of his first adventures in travel. He came to Marietta, GA at 18 where he met his wife Cora Gayton, known most of her life as "Chick."

They were married in an elopement when they were both 19 and were married for 49 years before Chick's death in 2001.

Together they had five children, four who lived to adulthood and one who lost her life at 26.

As a young airman Paul relocated often and ultimately, with wife and family in tow, he did an overseas tour in Izmir, Turkey and Athens, Greece. When possible, he lived among the population during his overseas tours instilling in his children a sense of curiosity and openness to the world.

His achievements also included many commendations as well as learning fluent German and Russian as part of his military training.

Upon retirement from military duty he settled with his family in Acworth, GA and in his great love of learning he used his GI Bill benefit ultimately earning a Bachelor's Degree in History, although his educational achievements were many.

He took up a second career in County Government where he served another 20 plus years before taking his second retirement.

Paul had a great love of reading, was a crossword master and loved spending time with his family where he, with his wife, Chick were tireless supporters of the activities of his children and grandchildren. A given was that he was unflagging in his care and one of his legacies will be the memory of how his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren had his unstinting support.

Along with his parents and his beloved grandparents, Paul is preceeded in death by his wife, Cora and his daughter, Sharon White.

He is survived by his children, Sandra Jarrard of Acworth, GA, Samuel Parker (Sheila) of Jasper, GA, Stephanie Parker of Hays, NC; his grandchildren, Jessica Roshak (Chuck), Shae Parker, Danny Parker, Allen Jarrard, Juan Reese (Johnny), and Kevin Parker; great grandchildren, Slade Richter, Iris Parker, Ela Parker; and great, great grandchildren, Anniston and Emberleigh Richter. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard, Sue, and Martha.

Memorable moments and achievements: Of the many memories made with Paul in his long life it will be his intelligence, humor, and love of his family that will be most remembered.
