Surrounded by his loving family, Peter Drago passed away on October 28, 2025. Peter is proceeded in death by his parents John and Florence Drago and his brother Vincent (Patricia) Drago. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary Drago, daughters Donna (Martin) Drago Bond, Deborah (Ted) Drago-Leaf, and Kristi (Dan) Drago-Price. Grandchildren Ryan (Emily) McKay, Rebecca (Carlos) Reveles, Kevin McKay, Olivia (Ryan) Drago-Rowe, Keagan Drago-Leaf, Simon Drago-Price, and Madelaine Drago-Price and Great Grandson, Ezra Drago-Rowe.
Peter grew up in Brooklyn and Rosedale, Queens. He met Mary, the love of his life, at a Dance where, together, they won a dancing contest and became forever dance partners. They married and raised three daughters who carry on their values of strong family bonds and love of adventure. He earned his PhD in Physics from St. John’s University and served as well-esteemed Physics Professor at United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point in Great Neck, NY. He also taught physics at Suffolk Community College and tutored countless students, friends, and family. His talent for making a seemingly incomprehensible subject become well understood was exceptional and recognized through awards and the adoration of his many students.
Peter leaves behind many fond friends and loved ones from Long Island, NY, Lake Worth, FL and Kennesaw, GA. Together with his family Peter was an active parishioner of The Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Holbrook, NY and later St. John Nepomucene in Bohemia, NY. Peter shared his values of compassion, encouragement and humor during many Family Retreats, mentoring Pre Cana couples, and Marriage Encounter weekends. During retirement, Peter volunteered his time to coordinate a yearly Golf Tournament, was VP of the Pine Ridge Men’s Club, played on Bocce Ball and Bowling teams, enjoyed Poker and Golfing with friends and family. Peter was a life-long Brooklyn Dodgers, then NY Mets fan who shared his love of the game through frequent contributions to the Vaccaro Sports column in the NY Post. Some of his family’s favorite memories are of watching games with Dad while he anxiously cheered on every batter and explained the intricacies of the game he loved with patience of a professor.
A world traveler, Peter planned new adventures with enthusiasm and curiosity, always seeking exciting learning experiences for his loved ones. One of his favorites was a summer spent driving across the country in a station wagon with three rambunctious children, a few 8-track tapes, a bowl full of candy and a very tired, happy wife. Above all, Peter encouraged his family to live an adventurous and kind life. Let’s go Mets!
