Susan Clary Smoak, 90, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, the 68th anniversary of her marriage to Gene Allen Smoak.Born on January 25, 1936, in Cameron, South Carolina, Susan devoted her life to faith, family, and service. After graduating from Furman University with a degree in education, she spent her career as a teacher.On June 21, 1958, she married the love of her life, Gene Allen Smoak. Together they shared more than six decades of marriage and built a family that brought her great joy.Susan and Gene were faithful members of First Baptist Atlanta for more than forty years. She also volunteered with In Touch Ministries and lived a life marked by steadfast faith, quiet strength, and devotion to those she loved.She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Smoak Chesnut and Linda Murphy Hardwick; her sister, Sarah Clary Glynn; her granddaughters, Kathryn Murphy Shubert and Madison Noda McEver; and her great-grandchildren, Lucy Shubert, Judah Shubert, Ruby Shubert, and Sally McEver.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Allen Smoak; her son, Richard Allen Smoak; her granddaughter, Lindsey Wallace; and her sister, Bennetta Clary Harvey.Susan’s legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the faith that guided her throughout her life.In accordance with Susan’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
