It is with immense heartbreak that we share the passing of Travis Ryan Christopher on February 6th, 2026. While it is never easy to lose someone so deeply loved, we are grateful that many of his friends and family were at his side as he departed. The hospital room was reminiscent of being at his home, where every few minutes a new set of faces would appear, people coming from near and far to be together in community, bonded by this one amazing thing we shared, Travis.
That’s the thing about Travis. He was the glue that brought so many of us together. He had a gift for making people feel included, loved, and special. This was evident even in his early life. One of Travis’ fondest childhood memories was attending Space Camp at the age of ten. While at camp, Travis was presented with The Right Stuff Award in acknowledgement of his ability to befriend just about anyone and his intentionality in including others. Travis was a naturally curious person who was excited to learn about different people and places. As he got older, he continued to seek out opportunities to explore through his extensive travels around the world.
A Georgia boy, born in Macon on August 31, 1976, Travis not only enjoyed exploring his home state, but also traversing the globe. While attending the wedding of his dear friends, James and Stephanie, he and a group of friends visited England, Wales, France, and Switzerland. Along with his long-time roommate and friend Rich, he traveled to Mexico, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Colombia, Italy, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Ireland. Through these many adventures, Travis made friends, ordered more food than he had any intention of eating, and enjoyed getting to know more about all the beautiful places of the world.
In addition to being a beloved friend and world traveler, Travis was an amazing artist. Excelling in multiple mediums, he won many awards for his work, including the Lamar Dodd Award from the University of Georgia (his alma mater) and The Art of the Can award presented to him by Red Bull. His creativity and artistry helped his Bedlam Werks team win the reality show Wrench Against the Machine. Travis designed impressive sculptures, beautiful paintings, and detailed metal works. He was an award-winning designer who brought his creativity to fabrication, mechanics, engineering, and graphic design. He had a talent for taking the incredible ideas in his head and turning them into reality. Travis was a builder. You would often hear him say “I could build that” or “I could make that.” Such remarks typically led to a trip to Lowes with his friend Jason. They took their shopping trips very seriously, assisting others at Lowes as if they worked there. Then it was time for lunch and, if time and energy allowed, working on the actual project.
Despite his award winning career in design and art, Travis’ most prized canvas was his yard. He meticulously tended to each leaf and blade of grass. No other yard in the neighborhood could rival his. While Travis was one the least judgemental people you could ever meet, there was one exception - your lawn. He was the first to point out what was lacking in your backyard, but also the first to help you address the atrocity. After a productive day of work in the sunshine, he might award you with a “purple”- a can of Grape Fanta- his favorite.
Travis never turned down a “Hot Now” sign glowing at Krispy Kreme and always had an absolutely terrible dad joke ready to share. There was never a shortage of laughter when he was around, especially when he was together with his longtime friend, Bill. They heckled each other as if they were brothers instead of just life-long friends.
Out of everything, Travis is probably best known for his overwhelming ability to love deeply and was blessed to find someone who shared this ability. Travis and Dana were two kind, caring people who loved with their whole hearts, and they were lucky enough to find that same kind of love in each other. Shortly before his passing, Travis and Dana blessed the world with the most beautiful gift, their sweet little girl Vada. Travis was most proud of and smitten with this incredible work of art, his daughter.
Travis always saw the beauty in our world. This not only made him an amazing designer and artist, but it also made him an amazing friend, husband, son, brother, and father. Travis didn’t care about our imperfections. Instead, he sought out the light and beauty in all of us.This is what makes it so difficult to say goodbye.
Travis is survived by his wife, Dana Lynn Christopher; children Oz Weatherholt, Lola Weatherholt, and Vada Christopher; parents Rockwell and Julie Davis, Cecil and Cheryl Christopher; siblings Meghan Cornelius and Clayton Christopher; and nieces and nephew, Elizabeth Cornelius, George Cornelius, Mikayla Crush, as well as honorary niece and nephew Mary Kate and Ransom White. Those who preceded him and who are now rejoicing in his company include his loyal and sweet pup, Kemper, his dear grandparents Madison and Judy Hortman, Cecil and Eloise Christopher, and the top half of his left thumb.
