Ursula Johnson passed away December 21, 2025, after a long life. Born Ursula Schubert in Hamburg in 1935, she spent her childhood during WWII and post-war Germany. She didn’t really like to talk about those years very much. Apprenticed as a hairdresser at 14, she took her trade and emigrated to the United States in 1960, first in Houston, Texas, where she worked and became fluent in English, before eventually settling in Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, she opened her own salon – if you lived in Buckhead 80’s & 90’s, you may recall the large “HAIR” sign in the Power Ferry Square on Roswell Road. She worked for 66 years, becoming a US citizen along the way, closing her shop at 74, and retiring at 80.
Ursula is survived by her brother Klaus (Helga), her daughter Dianna Suggs (Tom) and her grand-daughters Hannah and Abigail.
At her request, funeral arrangements are private. Her Daughter will host a Celebration of Life in March, her birthday month. In lieu of flowers, Ursula would rather donations were made to the Red Cross or CARE, two organizations that were a big help in her childhood after the war, and continue to make a difference.
