RUSSELL MARTIN LAKE

In loving memory of Russell Martin Lake (Born Thomas Allen Lamoreaux), 80, of Kennesaw, GA passed away on Tuesday, 4/16/2024.

Born March 16, 1944, in Chicago, IL (actual place of birth: Hinsdale, IL) was the son of the late Robert Martin Lake and Claire Isobel Lake and was one of two children; sister: Susan Hunt.

Along with his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Mae Hickman Lake (Fifteen years and one week prior to his passing). They were married for 36 years and Russell never remarried.

In the fall of 1957, when he was 13, he moved from Western Springs, IL to Sandy Spring, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, and remained in the suburbs of Atlanta until he passed.

Russell found joy in family life and had a love for learning anything that had to do with art and technicality.  He enjoyed careers in cartography and engineering.  He also enjoyed hobbies in model railroading and scale-size model construction of all types of vehicles (planes, trains, and automobiles).

He had a very high appreciation for all his pets, which included birds, dogs, fish, turtles, and chickens.  He and his family loved to vacation in the North Georgia Mountains and also in Clearwater, FL to visit his retired parents.

He was an incognito sports fan. Not having cable television till later in life, he listened to baseball and football games on his radio while he was working as a delivery driver.

Having lived in Georgia since 1957, he was loyal to the Braves and the Falcons, although he held a special place in his heart for the Chicago Cubs from whence, he hailed. Russell had a fascinating ability to follow the sport's season and rarely speak of the games to those around him.

Russell was proud to be succeeded by a family of significant proportion that includes two children, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and their spouses. Russell is survived by his son, Chris Lake his wife Nancy and his daughter, Elizabeth Dempsey, and her husband Scott.

Other survivors include Russell's four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren by Chris and Nancy: Cassie Cook, her husband Ray and their children Tyler, Kairi, and Desmond, Isaiah Lake, his wife Katie, and their children Israel, Josephine, Madelyn and another to soon be arriving.

Melissa Lake and her children Camden and Treazur, and Ashley Bennett and her husband Jason. Russell is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren by Elizabeth and Scott: Matthew Dempsey and his wife Jace, Gabrielle Carrillo, her husband Abraham and their children Arlo and Mabel, Nathaniel Dempsey and his wife Kaylee, and Caleb Dempsey.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
