Alexander Phillip Guercia

June 23, 2003 – June 12, 2021

Alexander Phillip Guercia went to walk in eternal life with the Lord Saturday, June 12, 2021.  Alex was a very compassionate young man who truly loved those around him.  It would not be uncommon to see Alex walk over to a Veteran in a restaurant or a store and thank them for their service, or to carry groceries in the house for an elderly neighbor.  He had an extremely bright smile that would light up any room he entered and it was contagious.

Alex was an avid car lover and enjoyed watching NBA basketball and NFL football.  He loved spending time with his family and friends and was never embarrassed to show his feelings of love and caring to those around him.  He was the first person to offer a lending hand to anyone and always had a way to bring laughter and smiles to those around him.

Alex played baseball from the time he was 5 until he was 12, at which time he took to swimming.  He swam for Tidal Wave Swim club, Harrison HS swim team in 9th grade and then again at Kennesaw Mountain HS in his senior year.  He also ran Cross County for Harrison HS his freshman year.  He was a proud brother to his little sister, Samantha, and spent many days, weekends, and weeknights watching her play and he was her biggest fan.

Alex had many experiences in life having traveled to Italy during the summer after his Freshman year on a class trip.  He also traveled extensively with his family and was able to see and do so many things like swimming with dolphins in Cancun, climbing the Dunn’s River Falls and ziplining in Jamaica, multiple cruises, visiting Universal Studios in Florida and California, multiple trips to Disney World (once to perform with his 8th grade chorus), youth retreat trip, family trips to Panama City Beach, California, and Massachusetts.  Most recently, he took a road trip with his mom to bring his dad’s car out to him in Texas, where he was mobilized with the Army.  Wherever we went, Alex was always bright-eyed and taking everything in, asking questions, and learning about different cultures.

Alex also had a great love and appreciation for music.  He studied the trombone for 3 years in middle school and participated in chorus from 5th through 11th grade.  He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.  He attended his first Bon Jovi concert with his mom when she surprised him with an early 10th birthday trip to Florida to see him.  He went to his 2nd Bon Jovi concert with his dad a few years later.  He absolutely loved the band and was eager to attend more concerts.

Alex had a true gift with children.  He would always play catch, shoot hoops, play video games, etc.. with them.  Kids were drawn to Alex because they could sense how gentle and kind he was.  He had worked with special needs kids in school and when he would see them out at a store or restaurant he would run over and say “hey man, how are you doing?  It’s so great to see you!”  These kids would have ear to ear smiles on their faces when they saw Alex.  He was such a beautiful soul and everyone could sense it as soon as they met him.

Alex is survived by his parents, Lee Guercia of Kennesaw, GA, Dave & Nancy Edwards of Powder Springs, GA, his younger sister, Samantha Guercia, Grandparents Fran & Carol Edwards of Westfield, MA, Grandmother Nancy Platt of Port Charlotte, FL, multiple Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and wonderful friends.

Alex is now at rest with his Grandfathers Alexander Platt, Philip Guercia, and Harry Fenimore, as well as his Grandmother, Gladys Guercia, and Great Grandmothers, Ruth Fenimore, Ruth Jean Conklin, Annette Brazee, Patty Card, and Helen Edwards.

The family will receive friends at Branches of Christ Church, 5946 Jacobs Rd SE. Acworth, GA,  for a visitation on Thursday, June 17, 2021, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.  The funeral will also be at the church on Friday, June 18, 2021, 11:00 AM, with burial to follow at Kennesaw City Cemetery, Kennesaw, GA.

I never met Alex, but he sounds like an amazing young man who was loved by many. Personally, my heart was broken when I heard the news. May Alex be resting in the peace of God's arms, and may his family find peace through faith. The community is all touched by this tragic loss, and we are here to support the family in any way. His family and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers. Debbie Commini Reply to this comment

My heartfelt condolences go out to this grieving family on the loss of a beautiful son. I read the obituary and know this child is in God’s memory and will be resurrected back to life on paradise earth when Jesus calls his name, as shown in the Bible 8 times, miracles performed by Jesus. May God provide a healing tent over his family and friends of loving care and concern. ???????????????? LaRue King, Kennesaw, GA Reply to this comment
