William C. Shivar, Jr., age 67, passed away on October 8, 2021, at home in Dallas, Georgia.
Funeral services and burial will be held on November 15, 2021, at 12:30 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
William “Bill” C. Shivar, Jr. was born in Athens, Georgia to William C. Shivar and Mary Wigley Shivar on February 10, 1954. He attended Clarke Central High School in Athens, Georgia, and graduated in 1972. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1979. After returning home, he attended the University of Georgia and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science. He continued his education at UGA and graduated in 1987 with a Masters's in Food Science.
After graduating, Bill was employed as a Food Technologist with Conagra Foods in the Banquet Frozen Foods Division until 1991. He went on to be employed with Tyson Foods as a Division Sales Manager until 2000 and earned the Chairman’s Circle Award. It was Bill’s dream to own his own restaurant, and this was realized when he became a franchise owner of two Zaxby’s restaurants (Woodstock and Acworth) until 2010. During this time, he was an avid supporter of the community.
He married the love of his life, Mimi Hutchinson, on October 6, 1987. Bill and Mimi share one precious child, Scarlett Leigh, whom he adored. He loved being a father and husband and preferred to spend most of his free time with his family. Bill enjoyed weightlifting throughout his life, and particularly enjoyed the comradery he found with others in the gym. He was a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Mary W. and Georgia E. Tully, Jr.; his father, William C. Shivar; his brother, Joseph (Joe) Korovas; and his sister, Mary Leigh Tully.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mimi; daughter, Scarlett Leigh; brother, Michael E. Tully (Leslie) of Gainesville, GA.; brother, Robert (Bob) P. Tully (Laurie) of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Margaret (Meg) Marie Tully of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law, Melissa Watson of Daphne, AL; nieces, Savannah and Chloe Tully of Gainesville, GA, Jessica L. Tully of Phoenix, AZ, and Casey Hopper (Dustin) of Robertsdale, AL; great-niece, Chloe Hopper; and great-nephews Mason and Gavin Hopper.
Funeral services and burial will be held on November 15, 2021, at 12:30 pm at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations for the continuance of Scarlett’s college education and Bill’s remaining medical expenses.
