Verline Williamson Farrar

Verline Williamson Farrar

Entered the World – July 5, 1933

Entered Glory – June 27, 2020

Verline was born to Bernice and Elizabeth Williamson on a large family farm in Clinton, NC. Verline was their third and youngest child. She graduated from Sampson County Training (High School) and graduated from what is now Elizabeth City State University, where she was also initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. While teaching first grade in Columbia, SC she met Albert Farrar, a young handsome soldier based at Fort Jackson, SC.

After just one month of courtship, they became engaged and one month later they were married, as they were 58 years until Al’s transition to Glory. The military took them around the globe and to Huntsville, AL their adopted and beloved home base for over 40 years.

She was the consummate military wife keeping the home fires burning. While Verline was a home body, she also immensely enjoyed her family and supporting her hubby’s community service pursuits. Among other activities, she was a church mother (deacon’s wife), Cub Pack Leader, First Lady of Boy Scout Troop 400, and a member of Disabled Veterans Auxiliary. She retired from Federal Civil Service. She and Albert relocated to live with their  children in Atlanta in their later years.

While her memory faded in her later years, love for the Lord never waned:

Favorite scripture: I look to hills from which cometh my help, my help cometh from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! Psalms 121:1-2 (NLT/KJV)

Favorite hymn: His Eye is On the Sparrow - by Civilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel

Favorite word of counsel: “Just whisper a word of prayer”

When arriving in Glory, we believe she was greeted by her beloved husband Albert and her parents, as well as, her sister Gladys (Talmus) Taylor and brother Marvin Williamson, also her parents in law, Albert and Elizabeth Farrar, sister in law, Annie Moseley and brother in law, Andrew Farrar, as well as a host of extended family.

Verline leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Verlinda (Wayne) Paul and Cordai Farrar, Atlanta, GA; son, Albert (Misook) Farrar, Radcliff, KT and grandsons, Daniel Paul, Indianapolis, IN and Johnathan Wright, Columbus, GA, sisters in law, Mavis Farrar, Garner, NC, Audrey Clayton, Richmond, VA, and Annette (Reeves) Dudley, Dayton, OH, brothers in law, Arthur (Liz) Farrar, Washingtonville, NY, David Moseley, Lynchburg, VA, Robert Clayton, Richmond, VA, and a beloved host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
