Larry Hogue

Larry E. Hogue, 72-years-old, was a retired U.S. Army Major and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
LarryE. Hogue built his life from humble beginnings, born to Army Sgt. Edward Hogue (father), of El Paso, TX, who was stationed at Ft. Benning,GA, and to Doris P. Odom (mother), of Phoenix City, AL. He was raised by his grandparents, Benjamin L. Odom and Carrie W. Odom, of Phoenix City, AL.

During a time when many young men sought exemptions or delays to military service, Hogue volunteered to serve his country during the Vietnam War, at the age of 18. He served in the Army as an enlisted Air Traffic Controller in Vietnam from 1968-1969, where he twice survived his unit being overrun by enemy combatants. Hogue was awarded three Army Commendation Medals and the Vietnam Service Medal with a V for Valor. Upon his return to the United States, he attended Officer Candidate School and became a Signal Corp officer. He enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and Europe during histime in service. Although he had a break from military service, Hogue did return to the Army, achieved a Master’s degree, and then retired from the Army in 1993.

During his post-Vietnam War break in military service, Hogue went on to complete a Bachelor’s degree, received his Real Estate license, and then became a Real Estate Broker and owner of Castle Realty in Columbus, GA. Thus, it was only natural that he would return to selling real estate after he retired from the Army. Hogue joined America’s Realty in 1993 and became a multi-year Top 10 Salesperson and real estate, investor. He loved to help people from all walks of life buy a home, so they could have personal security and could build their own nest eggs.

After many years of working hardfor his family, Hogue decided it was time to embrace retirement during the Great Recession. He spent his retirement years achieving a private pilot’s license and spent time with his wife, grandchildren, and belovedpets.

Larry E. Hogue passed away after a three-year battle with cancer on October 2, 2021, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He is survived by his wife of 52-years, Margaret Hogue, his two daughters, Barbara Rape and Mikki Dixon, as well as his two grandsons, Andrew Rape and Tyler Rape. Although he is gone, he and his service to the country and others, as well as his personal sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Hoguewill be laid to rest with full Military Honors on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 12:30 pm, at the Georgia National Cemetery, in Canton, GA. At his family’s wishes, the burial will be open to the public, and all who wish to attend or to pay their respects may do so.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ASPCA.
