Louise W. Ewing (October 19, 1949 – October 20, 2021)
Louise Ewing passed away October 20, 2021, just one day past her 72nd birthday. Raised by Rufus and Geraldine Scott of Davenport IA with her twin brother Louis (Buck), sisters Verna and Janet, and her youngest brother Melvin, Louise attended public school and graduated from Central High School in 1967.
After graduating high school, Louise first enlisted in the United States Air Force and was later commissioned as an officer, completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Christopher Newport College in Virginia in 1979. Louise served this country with honors for many years. A few of her active-duty stations included great cities around the country such as Colorado Springs, CO, San Antonio, TX, Miami, FL, and even a short stay, St. Louis, MO. It was in St. Louis that Louise earned her master’s degree in Business Management at Webster University.
Her final assignment was as an assistant professor for the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN ROTC program, the assignment of which she was most proud. She was proud to be able to teach, shape, and impact the minds of future commissioned officers who would go on to graduate and serve this country with distinction and honor. She would retire from the Air Force at the rank of Major in 1992, earning several achievements and meritorious awards during her military career.
Life after the Air Force saw Louise continue to further her education. She would graduate with high marks from the National Center for Paralegal Training in Atlanta, GA. From there she would go on to use both her business degree and paralegal certification with multiple companies throughout the city including becoming a Lead Case Manager for Home Depot at their cooperate main office in Atlanta.
Louise often volunteered her time to the Ray of Hope Christian Ministries in Decatur, GA working and volunteering for several ministries and church committees. Her favorite annual event was the Christmas Toy Drive where she would help organize the names for children in need as well as collect and wrap the gifts donated by the community. Louise also enjoyed playing the role of Santa’s Helper where she would assist in passing out the gifts to children who were less fortunate. Seeing the expressions on the children’s faces brought her immense joy and happiness every year.
Louise’s love for family and friends was by far her greatest passion. She rarely missed an event, trip, or regular get-together whenever family and loved ones were involved.
Louise was preceded in death by her eldest son Charles Edward Ewing Jr, parents Rufus and Geraldine Scott, and sister Janet Woods. She is survived by her two remaining children: Cory S. Ewing (Vallory) of Nashville, TN and Stacy Ewing of Oak Ridge, TN; daughter-in-law Jamika McCowan Ewing of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Deaundra Green, Jorai (Jo Jo) McGee, Cory Ewing Jr, and Mya Ewing and dear friend George Montague who was there for Louise in the final twilight of her life, providing a wonderful example of true and sincere friendship for all to see. Louise also leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends whom she loved dearly and who will greatly cherish her memory.
