Margaret Priscilla Cloyd Hinze

Margaret Priscilla Cloyd Hinze passed away on January 10, 2021.

She was born in Columbia, SC on September 26, 1943 to W. Joseph Cloyd & Doris Asbill Cloyd. She Graduated from Dreher High School and attended The University of South Carolina before her marriage to David Hopewell Hinze on January 24, 1964.

She was the president of the Saint Andrews Chapter of the Jayceettes and was a wonderful mother to her three children Keith, Leanne and Greg.

During her lifetime she lived in: Columbia, SC (which she always referred to as “God’s Country”); Clarkston, GA; Naples, FL; Stone Mountain, GA; Denver, Co (which she always referred to as “That Hellhole”); Boca Raton, FL; and finally back to Columbia, SC. Until she was no longer able, she lived in the house where she grew up in Shandon.

Margaret was always “on the go” with someplace she was coming from and another place she needed to be. She worked off and on throughout her life (mostly on) first in medical offices and medical supply and later as a bank teller, a job that suited her outgoing friendly personality. She worked for nearly every major national branch bank and retired from BB&T in Columbia.

She attended hundreds of churches (really, literally hundreds) during her life but had been a member at Shandon United Methodist Church and Bethel United Methodist Church both in Columbia. Later in life she was a member of the Red Hat Society and always enjoyed both causing and getting into trouble.

In 2017, Margaret was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) an atypical form of Parkinson’s Disease and she and David moved to Decatur, GA to be closer to her extended family. She spent the last two years at ManorCare of Decatur and the last ten months completely isolated from her friends and family due to COVID-19 restrictions. This has been a difficult time as we have all been denied the joy of spending time with her. Her family is grateful for the chance to at last be able to be with her in person during her final hours.

She is loved, cherished, and celebrated by her surviving family: her husband David Hopewell Hinze; her daughter Leanne Hinze Watson; her son Keith William Hinze, his wife Samantha McDaniel and their three children Ian, Autumn & Colin; her son Gregory Hopewell Hinze, his wife Susan and their two children Dylan & Sophia; and her brother John Asbill Cloyd.

Following her wishes, she will have a green funeral at the Honey Creek Woodlands Natural Burial Ground in Conyers, GA in a private graveside service.

A Celebration of Life will be held once it is safe for family and friends to gather.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to The Michael J

Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in Margaret’s memory. Donations can be made at: tribute.michaeljfox.org/tribute-page.php?id=1815Ob
