Margaret Rogers

Margaret Ann Rogers, age 75, of Decatur, GA, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022.  Margaret was born in Detroit on May 12, 1946, the second of five children of Mary Burns Rogers and John Addison Rogers.  She was a loving mother to her two children, Matthew Grabenstein (Kristen), and Nora Guenault, and a devoted grandmother to Lucille and James Grabenstein, and Claire Guenault. She is also survived by her four siblings, Kathleen Rogers, Delia Laux (Thomas), John Addison Rogers (Sheila), and Thomas Rogers, as well as her extended family of 10 nieces and nephews, 11 great-nieces and nephews, and a host of Burns and Rogers cousins.

Margaret attended Our Lady of Sorrows High School in Farmington, MI, and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While raising her young family, she worked part-time as an educator and librarian. After relocating to Atlanta, she worked as an administrative professional with various corporations, including GTE, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the American Cancer Society. For many years, she was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (IHM) in Atlanta, where she was a dedicated volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  She was an avid reader and walker.  She loved the arts and music and enjoyed sketching and collecting works of local artists.  Her collection of pottery was the envy of her family.

In her 60s, Margaret was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. She was fortunate to receive excellent medical care from Emory Medical Center’s Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program.  In addition, she was blessed to have friends and neighbors who surrounded her with love and support throughout her illness. The family especially wishes to acknowledge the exceptional medical team at Emory Medical Center, the kindness of the IHM Pastoral and Lay Staff, the outstanding care team at Agape Hospice, the dedicated caregivers at Berman Commons, and her long-time friends and neighbors at Cambridge Commons.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2855 Briarcliff Rd., NE, Atlanta. Attendees are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the service. A private burial will take place at the Honey Creek Woodlands at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Conyers, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Margaret’s name are suggested to one of the following organizations:
