Albert Lee Johnson, age 83, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Born February 14, 1938, in Meigs, Georgia, he was the son of the late Roscoe Johnson and Balma Lee Holton Johnson. Mr. Johnson grew up in the farming community of Cairo, Georgia with 4 brothers and one sister. And, attended Berry College in Rome, Georgia where he earned a BS in Mathematics, Physics, and Education. He taught mathematics at various high schools, including Avondale High School, for more than 20 years, before working at Stone Mountain Park Association until retirement. He married Bonnie Nelle Shirah Johnson on June 26, 1966. And, while raising his family, he worked many seasonal jobs including the milkman and security at Six Flags over Georgia.

Mr. Johnson’s interests outside of teaching and mathematics included church activities, antiques, and anything Bonnie, his children, or grandchildren were interested in!! He was affectionately known as Pop-Pop to his grandchildren, their friends, and many others. He was very devoted to family, spending many hours driving his grandchildren to and from school, attending musicals, piano recitals, and many types of athletic events. He traveled all over the mid-West and East attending collegiate cross country and track meets – braving outdoor races in temperatures as low as 19 degrees to watch his grandson compete. Mr. Johnson also loved to visit his son’s family in Manhattan over the years. He was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church in Cartersville and greatly enjoyed spending time with his Sunday school class and Wednesday night activities.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Nelle Shirah Johnson; brothers Darrell Evin Johnson and Stanley Preston Johnson, and sister Avis Terissa Johnson.
